In the Forza GDC presentation I posted a little while back, Greg Shaw made a comment saying turbos “kind of sound like jet engines.” Well, as it turns out, Greg’s analogy is very, very correct.
Turbos can make a very small jet engine, as evidenced by the video (and many, many more on youtube). In essence, all that’s needed is connecting the output of the compressor wheel to the input of the exhaust wheel. The compressed air spins the exhaust wheel very quickly, and the added density is shot out the back of the exhaust side which provides the thrust. Crazy!
