Ferrari is possibly the most famous name in Formula 1, with its history stretching back nearly to the very beginning of the sport. Early on, Shell Gasoline partnered up with Ferrari, and ever since, the yellow clamshell has been on the side of the red prancing horse cars.
So, it’s only natural that the two would pair up for a joint effort TV spot. Ferrari dug up an incredible amount of historical cars for the making of this commercial, and also visited a number of locations. The budget was supposedly somewhere around 4 million dollars. But my favorite part? No music in the background, so all you hear is some 60 years of Formula 1 sounds. Have a listen.
The only thing I found disappointing was how badly clipped the car at 1:01 is. But, to make up for that, I also found a “making of” video. Unfortunately, there’s no microphone shots nor anyone talking about sound, but it is cool to see the camera rigging.
