I’m super excited to announce that I’ve picked up NFS:S2 and DiRT3 today! NFS:S2 is kind of dark, artistically speaking, but feels really great when driven with a wheel. (The controller was pretty twitchy.) The sounds are good but seem a bit similar to the iPod version, including the starting lights/horn sound. The car sound is good though, so far anyway. DiRT3 holds a special place in my heart because it features elements from the Lake Superior Pro Rally, in Houghton, MI where I went to school. I did get a wave of nostalgia as I drove around the Quincy Mine, the Dredge, and the Gay Beach, as well as Brockway Mountain. Sonically, it is very good but somewhat inconsistent from car to car (IE the Suzuki SX4 sounds very distant and reverberant compared to like a WRX STI, when in reality the SX4 should be blowing our ears off comparatively.)
Just some first thoughts, can’t wait to get immersed in these games!
