I actually came across this from a posting on Reddit, but creator Josh Clason has also posted some of his work on Photography on the Net’s videography forum as well. What he created is a short video series that I imagine he would describe as “cool people with cool cars” but what I’d recognize as a peek into the cultural aspect of cars, something that I am fascinated by. There are a total of 10 videos in the first season that range from a look at pinstriping artists to modern-day drift drivers talking about old Skylines to racing on salt flats. What stands out about this series to me, though, is that each of the interviewees shares a passion not only for the cars (or for his craft) but for the kind of people that appreciate cars. We’ve all heard the phrase “Oh he’s a car guy” but what does that title imply? For example, I personally have an appreciation for old-ish German cars and the European Grand Touring style of racing. My interests are completely different from, say, a person with a ’69 Camaro who loves running 10′s at the quarter mile every weekend. Yet we both are labelled as “car guys.”
Anyway, I digress. I will be looking further into the cultural aspect of vehicle ownership in future articles, though, so if you have insights or questions or comments please feel free to leave them.
