It’s summer! That means it’s car show season! These are all on my calendar on the far-right, but I wanted to compile them into a post as well. Here’s a list of absolutely must-see car shows in the MN area this summer!
Back to the 50′s – June 22-24
If you love street rods and domestic classics, this is your best chance to check them all out! Over the course of the weekend there’ll be nearly 12,000 cars on display. Yes, twelve THOUSAND, and every single one of them 1964 or older. And if that isn’t enough, there’s also a 500+ vendor swap meet. AND a free-to-observe Mecum auction! This show takes over the ENTIRETY of the state fair grounds. Last year I went for an entire Saturday and still hadn’t seen the whole thing! Cost is $10 at the door. Bring sunscreen, an appetite, and a camera!
Velocity 2 Art Exhibit Opener – June 30
This show is perhaps the one I’m most interested in, as it’ll be the opening of a car-centric art exhibit which sounds absolutely fascinating to me. The show itself is to celebrate the opening of the exhibit. Most of the artists featured in the gallery are local. The show itself features anything high-end classic. There will also be a classic car cruise on July 8th with a pre-show taking over downtown Hopkins, as well as a hotrod show on July 28th. The gallery is open until the 3rd of August.
MNC&C – Every 1st Saturday thru Oct
MNC&C has become an absolute staple for anyone and everyone who can get up that early on a Saturday, as everything and anything can (and will!) show up. If you’ve browsed my flickr page you’ve seen the things that catch my eye. Part of the appeal is the recurring 1st-Saturday events that function more as a social get-together than just a car show. The organizers do a great job bringing in new and exciting cars. Plus there’s plenty of aural bliss as the cars parade out of the show! Set at AutoMotorplex, where garage owners often show off their imagination via their space designs. Free to see and free to show!
Eurowerks – July 21
Eurowerks features everything awesome from the European scene, featuring mostly VW, BMW, and Audi cars with everything from crazy “stanced” works to classic German cool. Set against the Grain Belt brewery, awards include the “Limbo” contest for a round of car-limbo, as well as the “running man” for he who came from the furthest away. This is a great place to see things you didn’t know were in the U.S.! Free admission for spectators.
Wheels of Italy – Aug 26
Wheels of Italy is the primo place to see the fine stylings of Italian cars AND motorcycles. Last year’s show was really awe-inspiring, and I had no idea there were so many Ducatis and Aprillas in MN! Add something like 9 Panteras, a couple Miuras, and a Daytona GTB and it was the best show I’ve ever seen. This year promises to be all that and more, so be sure to check it out! Admission is free to spectate.
